The journey
At Banders, our main goal is to empower artists and help them achieve success through mobilising fans, gaining cost-effective and high impact PR. The dynamic between artists and their fans is something special that if harnessed properly, can propel artists forward while giving the fans a unique collaborative experience with their favourite act! As an emerging act, Berne needed to strengthen their community identity by positioning their music in a context they wanted to create with help from their fans.
Berne asked their fans to pick out their favourite line from the new single ‘Oceans’ and submit explanations as to why it struck a chord with them, promising to donate 2 pounds to Help Refugees for each submission. The EP explores themes of diversity and through the numerous submissions we received, we could tell their fans caught on to their message and really contributed to the wider context of Berne overall, specifically showing how entwined their art is with their activism.
We believe that the co-dependency of the fan and the artist is something valuable, and here we saw a partnership flourish and the cultivation of advocacy ready fans who wanted to be a part of the project, but who also vividly relate to the issues Berne cares about. These are the people that usually deliver 80% of total revenue for artists, so this campaign was not only valuable in showing that Berne has advocates ready to deploy but also in enabling them to establish a partnership with a charity!
